Haha, yes. At this end (USA) there are parts where they seems rather popular even, spelled spaetzle, Ohio and around there, for instance. In Northern Germany we never had them but my aunt in Swabia makes them for her Swabian husband almost daily.

I ate in Bavaria Potato Soup without spätzle, it was not bad at all.

Soups have always been an autumn thing at my house in Germany. Once it got a little colder, we started craving them. Right now I live in California and there's really no such thing as 4 seasons here. I still want soup just because it's SUPPOSED to be autumn, hah.

I agree with you.
Now I am living also in very hot climate on Caribbean and I miss 4 seasons SO much!
I want to see snow, winter, autumn and spring. Here is only summer. It's not bad, but... you know...

Finally I know the real word for the noodles/dumplings my family uses in chicken noodles and also in a variety of recipes such as something they call "Popeye" (Egg flour and salt dumplings in beef broth with potatoes) and also "Rivvels" (Basically tomato stew with the aforementioned dumplings). It's always puzzled me because each respective recipe comes from an opposite side of my family, but both families are mostly German, so putting two and two together I had figured that atleast the noodles were of Germanic origin.

This answers a lot of questions for me! Thank you!

Just going to the wikipedia page made me realize that I've actually had spätzle without knowing it had a name of its own =P

It sounds so good. I want to give this a try some time:) Thanks!

It sounds very tasty, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE spätzle. But I like it fresh, not fried up the next day (apparently that makes me strange).

Me too. Best when fresh, like all pasta-like things in my opinion.
